On 24 Nov 2018 (Sat), IOC President Thomas Bach and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Fukushima's Prefecture Azuma Baseball Stadium, the competition venue for baseball/softball matches during Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

At Azuma Stadium, the local primary and junior high school students welcomed IOC President Bach and Prime Minister Abe with Anthurium from Kawamata Town. Following which, Fukushima Governor Uchibori explained about the refurbishment works at the stadium.

With regard to Azuma Sports Park, IOC President Bach commented that the whole atmosphere of the park is great, and it would be wonderful to be able to hold the baseball/softball matches in such a nice environment.

In addition, before visiting Azuma Stadium, IOC President Bach watched the badminton match of the Fukushima High School Newcomers Sports Meet, and had a chat with the baseball players of Fukushima Commercial High School. IOC President Bach conveyed this message to the players: “I am looking forward to meeting you at the Olympics someday.”

The venue of the chat session was decorated with Cymbidium grown by Fukushima Meisei High School.
