On October 26th (Sat) and October 27th (Sun), the “Fukushima Festival in Koriyama: Experience with the Olympics and Paralympics!” was held at the Aeon Koriyama Festa Shopping Mall.

During the event, visitors experienced different sports including baseball, golf, fencing, and boccia. In addition, 13 Host Town municipalities within Fukushima Prefecture set up booths to introduce their cultural exchanges and other programs with their partnered country. Over the two days, 5,805 people came to enjoy the event.

On the stage, the Tokyo 2020 mascots and high school students from Fukushima Prefecture performed the Tokyo Gorin Ondo dance among others. On the 2nd day (Sunday, October 27th), a talk show was given by Olympians consisting of Baseball Federation of Japan President Yamanaka Masatake (Samurai Japan Enhancement Committee Baseball), Tokyo Yakult Swallows baseball player Ishikawa Masanori, and former member of Japan women’s national soccer team Maruyama Karina.

Yamanaka and Ishikawa talked about the fun of baseball and their hopes for the Olympic Baseball Games at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium among other topics. Maruyama said she will continue to cheer for Fukushima among her other positive comments, which gave courage to the citizens greatly affected by Typhoon No.19 and the Great East Japan Earthquake.
